Economy and infrastructure

Local instytutions and buisness organisations such as Chamber of Commerce, Manufactures` Association, Craftsmen`s and Businessmen`s Guild, New Business Chamber of Commerce, Council of Businessmen, Merchants and Craftsmen, Association for Poland`s Integration with EU, Business Initiative Association "Podlasie" exert a crutical influence on the development of the entire south-eastern region.

Biała Podlaska provides facilities supporting railway and road border crossing, a Free Trade Zone, a railway transit cargo terminal in Koroszczyn. The city`s location provides an opportunity for it`s becoming a centre for West- East trade. Also, such institution as Customs Office play an important role in the region.

A high privatisation level may be considered a great success of the municipal authorities. Trade.production and building companies predominate in the private sector.

Power supply is more than satisfactory in meeting the growing demand for electricity.Following the construction of a new power line linking the area with the CIC an alternative source of power supply shall be obtained.

Gas grid is fed from the CIC gas pipe allowing the growth in the number of consumers.

International roadand rail and transport routes intersect Biała Podlaska. The exisiting infrastructure (including the largest rail reloading terminal in Poland, four border crossing and an airport) allows export of goods to costomers from all over the world. A duty - free zone is situated at the interection of E2 highway and an international railway line.

An international, historical East-West road route stretching from Madrid through Paris, Berlin, Warsaw to Moscow also passes trough Biała Podlaska. The future A-2 motorway will pass nearby too. Parallel to the road route, there is a railway line from Brussels through Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Minsk, Moscow and Vladivostok.
